CLAIM ON M.E.D. SURPLUS

Waimairi County View A share of the surplus made by the Municipal Electricity Department will be sought by the Waimairi County Council. Deciding this at its meeting last evening the council also decided to put the amount on this year’s estimates as income. It will institute a claim to the Christchurch City Council for a pro rata amount Cr. A. A. Adcock said the City Council had “given a very nice handout to a selected section of the community—the commercial consumer.” “I do not think it is fair that the Christchurch City Council should use money obtained from the people in Waimairi to help balance their budget on general accounts,” he said. Cr. W. T. Rice said he felt the M.E.D. surplus should lead to a reduction in charges throughout the whole M.EJ3. area.
