CANTERBURY EAST FEDERATION MEETS

Country Women’s Institutes

The federation president. Mrs H. Prebble, presided at a meeting of the Canterbury East Federation committee of Country Women’s Institutes. held in Christchurch recently, when remits scheduled to come before the Dominion conference in Wellington next August were discussed at length. Institutes in the Banks Peninsula group will act as hostesses for the half-yearly meeting to be held at Akaroa in October, it was decided.

A report of the recent meeting in Christchurch, addressed by the Dominion president (Mrs ME. Markwick) was given. Members of the Canterbury East centre entertained a large gathering of visitors on the occasion of their second birthday. The president (Mrs E. B. Thompson) welcomed the guests and presented birthday sprays to three members.

A programme of entertainment was arranged by Mrs D. Pashby. It included recitations by Mesdames J. Goss and A. Schmack, a comedy sketch by Mrs J. Gollan, pianoforte solos, and piano accordion solos by Mrs B. Magow. A vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs N. Candy and the artists were thanked by Mrs H Prebble.
