37 Juveniles Appear

Thirty-seven children—34 boys aged from 10 to 16, and three girls—appeared in the Children's Court in May before Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M., and his associates, Mrs T. Green and Mr W C. Colee.

Charged with robbery and assault, a 15-year-old-boy who had previously been before the Court for a similar offence was sentenced to Borstal training. Another youth of 16. similarly charged, was placed on probation for two years. ’ Two youths aged 16, one making his second appearance before the Court, were charged with theft. The .first was admonished and ordered to pay 12s 6d restitution, and his companion was fined £lO and ordered to pay 14s 9d restitution.

Making his fourth appearance before the Court, a 15-year-old boy charged with theft was fined £5

Two years’ probation was ordered for a 16-year-old youth making his second appearance before the Court, charged with shop-breaking. He was ordered to make restitution of £l3. Two 14-year-old boys charged with theft were placed under the supervision of a child welfare officer, one for 18 months and the other for two years. They were ordered to make restitution of £29 Ils 7d and £l9 14s 7d respectively Not Under Control

On complaints of a child welfare officer that they were not under proper control, a 16-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy were committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare.

A 16-year-old boy charged with failing to buy a railway fare was admonished and returned to the care of the Superintendent Child Welfare, and ordered to make restitution of £2 7s 6d.

Supervision for 18 months was imposed on a 13-year-old boy charged with theft. Two youths, aged 15 and 16, appeared on a charge of unlawfully taking a power-cycle. Eighteen months’ supervision was ordered for one. the other being admonished and discharged. Both were ordered to make restitution of £3.

Charged with being unlawfully in possession of a firearm, a 15- boy was admonished and discharged. Two brothers aged 10 and 13 charged with theft were placed under supervision for two years. A 15-year-old boy also charged with theft was admonished and discharged, and ordered to make £8 16s restitution. Charged with theft, attempted theft, and cycle conversion, a 16- youth was committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare. Placed Under Supervision Eleven other boys and two girls were placed under the supervision of a child welfare officer for one year. They were: A 15-year-old youth charged with attempted shop-breaking, who was ordered to make restitution of £9;

Four boys, aged 14-16 years on a number of charges of theft and unlawful taking of cycles, who were ordered to make restitution totalling £137 14s 9d; Two boys. 15 and 16. charged with theft, who were ordered to make restitution of £4 6s 4d; A 14-year-old boy charged with theft:

Two 12-year-old boys on a charge of breaking, entering, and theft, each being ordered to pav £2 6s 6d restitution: and Two girls aged 15 and 16 who appeared on complaints that they were not under proper control. On Traffic Charges

Five boys, all aged 15 or 16. appeared on traffic charges. A total fine of £8 was imposed for driving without a licence and supplying false information. For exceeding 30 miles an hour without a safety helmet a fine of £4 was imposed. A 16-year-old boy was fined £5 for driving a vehicle other than specified in his licence

For exceeding the speed limit a fine of £3 was imposed. A youth was admonished and discharged for failing to yield right of way.
