PORT LINE BLOCKED
Derailment Near Linwood Station
Four high-sided goods waggons were derailed near Linwood railway station yesterday afternoon and blocked the two main lines between Christchurch and Lyttelton for one and a half hours. The derailment occurred at 3 p.m. during shunting. Passengers for the 3 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. trains from Lyttelton to Christchurch and the 4.S p.m. train from the city to Lyttelton were carried by Railway x Department buses. A crane cleared the lines by 4.20 p.m. An electrical points machine was damaged when one of the waggons struck it The two sleepers to which the machine was bolted were split. A spokesman for the Railway Department said that the cause of the accident was not known.
