Town Hall Site

Sir,—“For Christchurch” deprecates the Latimer square site on the score of lack of parking. This area offers greater potential parking facilities than the library site—facilities which are deperately needed in this city. Part or all of Latimer square could be raised to permit underground parking as is common practice overseas. The parking revenue would soon pay for the alterations which could result in terraced lawns and seats. The logical site is, of course, Hagley Park near the Armagh street bridge but somebody once said "hands off the park” and this parrot cry has been heard ever since, irrespective of the fact that the public would make greater use of this corner of the park if it becomes the town hall site.—Yours, etc., PARKING SPACE.
