POLIO CASES IN N.Z.
Only 16 Reported Last Year
(New Zeaiana Press Association; WELLINGTON, June 22 Only 16 cases of poliomyelith were reported last year in New Zealand, said Dr. L. S. Davis, director of the Division of Publie Hygiene of the Health Department, in Wellington today Dr. Davis was asked about the New Zealand position after a report from Sydney that there had been no recorded case of polio, myelitis in the state of Victoria since October 17, 1959. had been referred to him. The report stated that Victoria’s immunisetion campaign had been a great success.
Dr. Davis said that, though the figure for New Zealand wu not quite clear, it was very low, There had been only one death from poliomyelitis in 1959.
