M.P.’s £1 On Re-election

Mr E. A. Whitehead, the Nelson member of Parliament, on Monday evening accepted a wager for £1 about retaining the Nelson seat at the General Election. The Nelson Harbour Board, of which Mr Whitehead is a member, was discussing the official opening of the new McGlashen quay, probably on November 21, when a member pointed out that it would be two days after the election. He asked Mr Whitehead if the present Minister of Marine (Mr Fox) would attend. “I bet you a pound you won’t be there,” said Mr H. W. Chisnail to his fellow member.
