Surf Trophies
■Surf clubs in Canterbury ere expected to be well in the running for two major trophies to be awarded by the annual meeting of the New Zealand Surf Life Saving Association in Wellington at the end of July. These are the Gudsell and London trophies, both of which are covetedtas symbols of keenness for the sport The Gudsell trophy is swarded to .the club gaining z the most surf awards .during the previous season, and the London Trophy goes to the district association gaining most points for Royal Life Saving and surf association awards, surf instructors* certificates, and the number of new clubs, in relation to district membership. There has been an increase of more than 50 per cent tn the number of surf awards gained in Canterbury last season, and this figure will be hard to beat The awards won by local clubs last season, with the previous season’s figures in parenthesis, are: Waimairi 15 (8), North Beach 10 (3), New Brighton 7 (10), South Brighton 9 (10), Sumner 5 (8). Taylor’s Mistake 23 (6). Taylor’s Mistake also gained three surf Instructors* awards.
