FOG OVER WESTLAND RANGES.—This view, taken on the open tops above a heavily-bushed West Coast river valley at a hieght about 4500ft in good shooting country, illustrates the cantion necessary for deer shooters and trampers in the high country. The Southern Alps in the background, including peaks up to 6600ft, are completely enveloped by fog. The dangers of fog and river crossings and many other aspects of safety among shooters, particularly with firearms, will be taught to junior shooters in the near future by experienced members of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Deerstalkers' associations. After being versed in rifle safety the junior stalkers will be taken on trips into the back-country for p ractical instruc tion in bush, mountain, and rifle safety.
