CALL OF THE SEA
In sheds and garages around Christchurch, yachtsmen are demoting the winter months to building new craft or reconditioning existing ones in readiness for the season which begins in “de September. Many yachtsmen design their own boats, as in the R-class, while others conform to strict plans in one-design craft such as Taurongas, Takapunas, Junior Cherobs, Cherubs, Catamarans, Finns •nd others. t This year two new classes are being developed to provide suitrole craft for Canterbury conditions. The Junior Cherub is being sponsored by the Christehurch Yacht Club as a boat for lounger yachtsmen. Last sea■on there were three of these ®*ft sailing, and this season “*ere should be more than a roeen sailing. This boat is built Plywood, which is comparatively easy for the amateur builder to use. Kitsets and sets of building templates are readily available. last season the boat proved *"Mf a safe, stable craft which Provides an excellent step to spem?tised craft such as R-class.
