HARBOUR WORK AT KAIAPOI

Extensions To Wharf

Tenders will be called as soon as possible for the erection of 60ft of new concrete wharf at Kaiapoi harbour, the new wharf to extend downstream from the existing wharf of sheathed wooden piles and wooden decking, backed by earth filling. The Kaiapoi Borough Council on Monday night decided to ask its consulting engineers (Messrs H. G. Boyds and Sutherland) to call for tenders for the wharf extension with as little delay as possible. The engineers had produced plans and specifications for the council harbour committee, and the committee recommended the calling of tenders. It was estimated by the engineers that the new wharf would take six months to build. The council is taking action to ensure safety in working the bld berth. The No. 2 berth has been fenced off and the shipping companies had. been notified that the council considers it unsafe.
