Summit Conference
Sir,—•'White Waters," it seems to me, obscures the issue. There is a law of nations as inflexible as the law of gravity. Mr Khrushchev says (among other things) “we will bury you.” This could be kindly advice. The Huns have buried at least one civilisation. Like the vulture, he is not a killer but a scavenger or undertaker. . Civilisations kill themselves by internal discord sad spiritual debility- An inelegant but factual dictum should be observed: “Either hang together or hang separately.”—Yours, etc, T. E. SHAW. Westport, June 20, 1960.
. Sir,—Russian “peace efforts” include the obliteration of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, the acquisition of parts of Poland, and the transportation of many of these peoples to Siberia. This is fact, not “bias.” Mr Khrushchev's disarmament programme is neither “realistic" nor “sincere,” but calculated to weaken the West’s position without any appreciable loss to Russia. Even if it were convincing it would praise only Mr
Khrushchev’s intelligence, not his sincerity. If Russia wants “peaceful competition” to prove that communism will eclipse capitalism, why has it forced communism on Poland and Hungary? Only recently, we have heard of the enforced collectivisation of Hungarian farms. Even “E.C.” could not call this “peaceful competition.” This shows communism for what it really is—an unscrupulous system using violence or deceit—whichever it considers more expedient—to reach its ultimate goal—world domination.—Yours, DON’T BE FOOLED. June 20, 1909.
