Union Secretary’s Comment
“I am rather disappointed that the decision did not go back to February 8, the date that was agreed upon between employers and the assessors for the employees on incorporation of the 24 per cent, general wage order, but I feel that the decision will be well received in the industry.” said the secretary of the Canterbury Freezing Works and Related Trades Union (Mr T. Handisides) yesterday. He was particularly disappointed as “we kept our part of the bargain in not imposing the overtime ban which was to have operated from February 9,” he added.
So popular is the St. Lawrence Seaway for pleasure cruising that many yacht clubs and pleasure craft organisations now carry stocks of canal toll tickets. These are necessary at all but three canals. However, all pleasure craft using the Seaway have to be carefully scheduled to avoid interference with commercial shipping!
