Midwinter’s Day Celebration
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 20. happiest festival of the Antarctic year—Midwinter’s Day Z^ian? e c !: ebrate d by the New Zealand party at Scott Base on Wednesday night. The New Zealanders will entertain some of *2 e i£ "oencan neighbours from McMurdo Sound to a lavish ouffet dinner comprising more than 20 items, from Canterbury lamb to turkey. The centre-piece of the spread will be a huge iced cake two feet across made in the shape of an open book. Across it are the words “June 22, Midwinter’s Day-Scott Base, Half Way.’’ Greetings have been received at Scott Base from other parties wintering in Antractica—Russian, French, American, South African and Japanese.
Tomorrow in Wellington, the New Zealand Antarctic Society will hold jts annual dinner and during the course of the evening it will also send greetings to Scott Base.
