COMMERCIAL Sharemarket Active, Prices Variable

In active trading on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday, price rises and falls were evenly divided.

Cyclone Fence and Gate, last traded four weeks ago, rose 2s to 365. Kaiapoi Woollen preference rose 6d to 24s 6d. Directors have warned both preference and ordinary stockholders not to sell their holdings, pending advice of a capital reconstruction. Colonial Sugar rose 10s after publication of their annual accounts.

Other shares traded at higher prices were: A. E. Goodwin, Andrews and Beaven, General Foods, Leyland Investment, Waltons rights and Woolworths (N.Z.) rights. Donaghys Rope rights fell back 6d to 16s. Union Steamship preference, A.M.L, Ballins Industries, 8.H.P., Coles, L.N.C. Industries, Reid Murray and Wilsons Cement were also sold at lower prices. Turnover at more than 19,000 was again high, but fell short of last week’s peaks. CHRISTCHURCH
