Squash Rackets SHIELD ROUND RESULTS

Christchurch Beats Officers’ Club

Only Christchurch A and Wigram remain unbeaten after the third round of matches, which were played last evening in the Christchurch inter-club squash rackets competition.

Wigram scored a good win over University and Christchurch A did very well to beat Officers’ Club, previously unbeaten, in a very close match which featured some firstciass squash. In the third match. Christchurch B beat Junior Chamber on a count-back by the closest possible margin of one set. Christchurch A was without its top player R. G. Pattinson, at present No. 2 ranked player In Canterbury. Pattinson was away with an injured knee and his absence appeared to give Officers’ Club every chance of a win. But M. O. Holdsworth was too good for W. Dougal. the ease of his win being surprising, as it was Dougal's first inter-club loss for several seasons. Results:— Christchurch A v. Officers’ Club P. R. Hadley lost to D. Tnggs, 29. 7-9, 7-9; H. S. Gair beat M. R. Blank. 7-9, 9-0, 9-5, 4-9, 9-6; M. O. Holdsworth beat W Dougal. 9-2, 9-2, 9-0; G. C. P. Beadle beat J. Cotter. 9-6, 5-9, 9-4, 0-9. 9-4. Christchurch A won by 3 matches to 1. Wlgram v. University S. M. Hope beat B. J. Shirlaw. 9-5, 9-4, 9-4; R. M. Hancock lost to P. M. Hill, 2-9, 9-6, 7-9, 5-9: J. S. Boys beat D R. Preston. 1-9, 10-9. 9-2, 9-6; G. C. Hubbard beat D. D M. Stewart. 7-9, 9-4. 9-7. 3-9, 9-5. Wigram won by 3 matches to 1. Christchurch B v. Junior Chamber G Stewart beat K. Cowie, 9-6. 93, 3-9, 9-5; K. Brown lost to R. M. Smith, 9-5, 9-3, 7-9. 5-9, 4-9: G.
