HEATHCOTE RIVER SOURCE

Board To Maintain Springs

Natural which are the source of the Heathcote river would be maintained by the Christchurch Drainage Board, provided that in the case of one spring and drain the owner of the Halswell farm on which the springs rise contributed to the cost, the board agreed last evening.

The works committee reported that the owner of the land in Cashmere road said the springs and their connecting drains were a part of the Heathcote river system. He suggested that the board should take over the maintenance of the areas. The nature, depth and size of the springs and drains made them dangerous for the average farm employee to clean.
