MEDICAL FEES CLAIMED

AUCKLAND, June 21.
More than £6OO has been awarded an Auckland doctor who claimed medical fees from the combined estates, totalling £125,000, of two Devonport women. The doctor thought the two elderly sisters so “frail and seemingly impoverished” that he treated them for 30 years without submitting an account
In a reserved judgment, Mr H. Jenner Wily, S.M., has upheld a claim for professional services brought by James Garfield Stewart, medical practitioner, against the Public Trustee.
Stewart sought £257 5s from the estate of Mrs Catherine Bannatyne Smith, widow, who died aged 90, and £385 17s 6d from the estate of Miss Jessie Munro Murchie, who died aged 88.
He was awarded £652 7s 6d. which included Court costs, solicitor’s fees, and witnesses expenses.
The Magistrate found that the fees were exceptionally reasonable. ,
