GENOCIDE IN TIBET
Jurists Charge China
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) GENEVA, June 21. The International Commission of Jurists today accused the Chinese Communists of resorting to the mass murder of religious leaden and to the deportation of children to wipe out Buddhism in Tibet. American Associated Press reported. It said its special legal inquiry committee on Tibet, combining nine leading jurists from Asia, Africa and Europe, concluded that “acts of genocide had been committed in Tibet in an attempt to destroy the Tibetans as a religious group." It said the committee—whose full report is expected to appear next month—established these four main facts: That the Chinese will not permit adherence to and practice of • Buddhism in Tibet. That they have systematically set out to eradicate this religious belief in Tibet. That in pursuit of this design, they have killed religious figures because their religious belief and practice was an encouragement and example to others. That they have forcibly transferred large numbers of Tibetan children to a Chinese materialist environment in order to prevent them from having a religious upbringing.
