Motorists who have taken delivery of a new car fitted with English tyres have often noticed that the tread wean very quickly—faster than tyres which are manufactured in New Zealand. The reason for this was explained fa Christchurch last week by a tyre company expert, Mr K. Garfield. ‘lt is really a very simple explanation,” saM Mr Garfield. “In trying to produce a completed car at the cheapest possible price, the manufacturer asks the tyre company to produce a lowpriced tyre. If the tyre company failed to comply, the car manufacturer would simply seek another supplier, so our hands are tied to producing a lower-standard English tyre."
