BUTTER SOLD ON N.Z. MARKET
Farmers Asking For Higher Pay-Out (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 15. The dairy section of Federated Farmers decided at its annual conference in Wellington today td ask that farmers be paid the established cost of production for all butter sold oa the local market. An Auckland delegate said that other industries were getting an assured cost of production and profits, but the dairy Industry had to be content with taking what the Government was prepared to offer. The industry would be justified in asking at least for the cost of production for the produce sold on the local market. Mr W. Wesley (Auckland) said that people who "travelled through the north” would have to agree that butterfat could not be produced at 32d per lb. A Government department was sending officers “up north” to find out why Maori farmers were leaving farms. “Maoris are shrewder than we are. They do not wait till they are forced out or carried out That is why we say we should* have the established cost of production,” he said. '
