TRAP SHOOTING

Canterbury Titles Decided F. Inwood (Belfast) scored a popular win in the Canterbury provincial single rise clay bird championship. Four Canterbury championships —skeet, single and double rise, and clay sparrows—were at stake during the two-days’ shooting, which was held at the North Canterbury Gun Club’s ground, Rangiora. The championships, which attracted large numbers of shooters from many South Island gun clubs, were held in poor conditions. Competitors had to overcome erratic flight of the targets in the south-west winds, and rain. Inwood, one of four brothers who have competed t.ith distinction for many years in shooting contests in Canterbury, was the only competitor to break all 25 targets in the single rise event. D. Dalton (Methven) was runnerup in the shoot off. J. McKenzie (Seaward Downs) the 1959 New Zealand skeet champion, took the Canterbury skeet championship with C. R. Crawford (North Canterbury) runner-up. r

The double rise championship was won by S. G. Holmes (Methven), with A. Brown (Lauder, Central Otago) a South Island title-holder, runner-up. The sparrow championship was gained by L. Kerr (North Canterbury) who shot extremely well to beat L. Lanauze (Waihora) a National single rise champion.
