City Council’s Support

Support'for the Wellington City Council in its approach to the Government for diversion of part of the additional petrol tax to the National Roads Fund, if the Government decides not to remit the tax, was given by the City Council last evening. “The Wellington City Council advised that it is making representations to the Minister of Finance (Mr Nordmeyer) that should the Government decide not to remit the balance of the additional tax to the motorist it be diverted from the Consolidated Fund to the National Roads Fund for distribution through the National Roads Board to local authorities for road improvement purposes.” the finance committee reported. “The Auckland City Council has advised that it has made representations to the Ministers of Works and Finance that 3d of the additional tax should be diverted to the National Roads Fund.’*
