EQUAL RIGHTS TO EDUCATION

Students’ Support For South Africans Continued and extended support for South African students was decided upon at a recent meeting of the New Zealand Students’ Association which also urged a collection among New Zealand students to assist the National Union of South Africrn Students in attaining equal rights to education. The association decided to write to the Minister of External Affairs (Mr Nash) urging the Government to act through the United Nations and its agencies against apartheid in South African universities. A grant of £lO has been made by the association to the National Council of University Students of India to assist with their first national seminar. * Officers elected were:—President, Mr E. Woodfield; vicepresidents. Messrs M. A. Pickering and B. A. Hume; treasurer, Mr J. Hunn; secretary, Mr B. C. Shaw; travel and exchange officer, Mr M. Freyne; records officer. Mr D. G. Jamieson; public relations officer, Mr J. Hill Officers of the Student Press Council elected at a meeting held at the same time were:—President. Mr S. G. O’Regan; vicepresidents, Messrs J. Hill and T. Goddard; secretary, Mr D. G. Jamieson: assistant secretary. Mr J. C. Salmon; publications officer, Mr T. Steiner.
