Wellington B Beats Marlborough

(New Zealand Press Association) BLENHEIM. June 6.

Wellington B beat Marlborough. 17-14, in the annual Queen’s Birthday match in Blenheim today. Wellington played enterprisingly, and it was surprising that its winning margin was not higher. Marlborough’s ability lay more in spoiling than in constructive play. At half-time Wellington led 9-3, but early in the second spell Marlborough evened to 9-all. Thereafter the score went to 17-9 to Wellington, a score which would have been better if the goal-kicking had been merely average. Marlborough rallied, but in the end had to bow to a better combination. For Wellington tries were scored by Mac Gibbon <2), Heaps. Nodder. and Roberts. Jeffries converted one. For Marlborough Bugler scored two tries, one of which was converted by Pacey, wlio also kicked two penalty goals.
