Military Chief Of S.E.A.T.O.

WASHINGTON, June 1

The S.E.A.T.O. Foreign Ministers today agreed to the appointment of Major-General John G Wilton, of Australia as the new head of the group’s military planning office in Bangkok. He succeeds Brigadier General L. W Thornton, of New Zealand, who is to take up his appointment as Chief of Staff of the New Zealand Army soon.

A S.E.A.T.O. spokesman said the council had expressed very warm appreciation of Brigadier Thornton’s work. He had made an outstanding contribution to the work of the military planning office during the two years he served as its chief.
