May 17. 1960 [The New Zealand Milk Board’s annual report shows that 21,726 gallons of raw milk were sold in the Christchurch district. A spokesman in Christchurch for the Hew Zealand Milk Board said that this figure did not refer to the city but to the raw milk sold in such country towns in Canterbury as Waipara, Amberley, Oxford, Cust, Darfield, Leeston, Akaroa, and Diamond Harbour. In general, that would apply throughout the country and account for much of the total mentioned by the correspondent All milk sold retail in the Christchurch Metropolitan Milk Board’s area was pasteurised. the spokesman said. No official statement had ever been made that all milk sold in New Zealand was pasteurised.]
