TWO-MEN BUS CREWS
Talks On Claim Next Week
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 2.
Auckland Transport Board employees will take no direct action affecting the running of buses before a meeting of passenger transport authorities and union representatives is held, probably early next week. The secretary of the Auckland branch of the Public Passenger Transport Authorities Employees’ Union (Mr E. A. Whitlow) said tonight that the status quo would be preserved until the present dispute was resolved. He said it seemed common sense would determine the issue without penalising passengers. His union would probably handle the dispute on a national basis. The union is asking for twoman operation of all buses, to which the transport authorities have refused to agree.
The chairman of the board (Mr N. B. Spencer) said he would attend the conference as the board’s representative. He thought it would be held early next week and officials of passenger transport authorities throughout the Dominion would attend. The board was adamant that it could not give way, said Mr Spencer. "It would wreck the whole show."
