BRISBANE CUP BETTING
Valerius Equal Favourite (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) BRISBANE, June 1. Bookmakers today made Valerius equal favourite with Grand Garry and Melroy for the Brisbane Cun to be run at Eagle Farm on June 13. Some fielders are of the opinion that Valerius will start outright favourite. Valerius was suspect as a two-mlle horse until his good second to Grand Garry, beaten by half a length, in the Sydney Cup on April, 18. In that race. Grand Garry set a Randwick course record of 3min 20 7-10 sec for the two miles. The New Zealand-owned Second Earl has picked up quickly following his hard run in the Lightning at Eagle Farm last Saturday, and apparently has benefited from that race for his Stradbroke attempt. The Stradbroke favourite. Fine and Dandy, continues to thrive, and was let off with an easy task yesterday. He will gallop fast today. The latest betting order is:STRADBROKE HANDICAP, Seven furlongs (run June 11). Fine and Dandy. In Love. Prince Lea. Second Earl. Correct. All Dignity, The Conveyancer. Manrego. Bon Glance. Uplands Lad, Lion. Treasury Lane. Waligar, Hianthus. La Josephina, Sumarco. Southport. Son o’ France. BRISBANE CUP, Two miles (run June 13). Grand Garry, Melroy, Valerius. Drumcondra. Macdougal, Essayist. Jalna, Nether Gold. Midswain, Doz Street. Regal Wench. Bakfelt, Committed, Countwood. La Glance, Mayrah, Sir Hua, Joy.
