CUSTOMS RETURNS FOR MAY
Revenue collected by the Customs Department in Christchurch in May was £981,366, compared with £866,124 last year. Customs and excise was £’87.361 higher at £575.213. while sales tax was £10.146 higher at £237.234. Total, with figures for Maylast year in parenthesis, are: Customs and excise. £575.213 (£487.852); petrol tax. £164.958 (£147.761); tyres. £359 (£567); sales tax. £237.234 (£227.088); light dues. £1469 (£1316); miscellaneous, £2133 (£1540). AUCKLAND Revenue collected by the Customs Department in Auckland during May, with the corresponding 1959 figures in parenthesis, was:— Customs, £1,311,352 (£973,386); petrol, £524.926 (£431.222); tyres, £2006 (£1078); sales tax, £516,652 (£530,977); other, £545,262 (£367,608). Totals; £2,900.198 (£2,304,371). WELLINGTON Revenue collected by the Customs Department in Wellington during May. 1960, totalled £2.608.345 3s Id. compared with £2.617.360 17s 6d last Mav Details are:— Customs. £1.128.332 (£1,190.5001. sales tax. £1.057.566 (£1.056.650): petrol tax. £239.719 (£216,824); rvre duty, £729 (£304); other duties. £181,999 (none comparable).
