INNER AREA ZONING
Objections By Owners
More objections to zoning in the central area of the city were heard by the special committee of the City Council yesterday. Objections to zoning as residential B and requests for rezoning as commercial were filed by E C. R. Harvey (30 Latimer square), R. R. Behringer (38 Latimer square), and N. G. Martin (282 Madras street), who was supported by the Public Trustee for the Wilson family agency and R. C. Dunn. Cambridge terrace property owners who objected to industrial B zoning and requested commercial B zoning were: M. Snell, trustees of the Christchurch Methodist Central Mission. Christchurch Drainage Board, C. A. Lyons, and E. M. Tutton. Similar objections were lodged by the Christchurch Repertory Theatre • (Kilmore street), supported by A. H. Cutler (194 Salisbury street), and E. G. S. Powell. The Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association objected to the zoning of the block bounded by Cambridge terrace and Manchester and Kilmore streets as residential B and requested rezoning to commercial A. The association said its own land had been used for commercial purposes, without objection in the past. The association also objected to industrial zoning of the block to the east. The objection was opposed by Mrs E. Brown (166 Kilmore street), S. C. Elphick (170 Kilmore street), L. M. Trengrove (Cambridge terrace), G. S. Cumming (162 Kilmore street), and the Theosophical Society (267 Cambridge terrace). The association replied that although 19 properties were in the block, only five owners opposed its objection.
The committee was: Messrs W. P. Glue (chairman), G. A. G. Connal, and G. D. Hattaway.
