Welfare Officers Confer

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. May 16. Fifty field officers of the Child Welfare Division stationed in districts from Whangarei to Tauranga attended a conference in Auckland during the weekend to discuss various aspects of their work.

The Auckland District Child Welfare Officer (Mr K. J. Flint) complimented field officers on their enthusiasm and said this was shown by the fact that they attended the conference in their own time and at their own expense.

Mr Flint said the Child Welfare Division had a staff of ?00 and was spending about £1,500.000 a year. It seemed strange, he said, that in a time when the country had a vigorous and expanding economy there should be an increased demand for social services.
