Ireland Beats Brabham (N.Z. Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, May 14. Australia's world champion racing driver, Jack Brabham, waa beaten by less than two seconds tn the international trophy race for Grand Prix cars at Silverstone. Northamptonshire, today. The winner was Innes Ireland, and Graham Hill was third. Stirling Moss was forced to withdraw with suspension trouble in the 33ra lap of the 90-iap race. He had led almost throughout the 150-mUe race to that stage. It waa announced that Ireland created a new lap record of Imin 34.25ec (111A9 mji.) in the first half of the race, while chasing Moss. With five laps to go. Ireland was four and a half seconds ahead of Brabham, who began putting on the pressure, lapping consistently at Imin 36sec or lees. Brabham made up around during the last two laps, Mt could not close the gap entirely. Ireland won by lAeec. Hill (UM), who finished third, was the only driver not to be lapped by Ireland and Brabham. David Huhne, a young New Zealander. who has been tent to Britain by a New Zealand fond to get experience in top class car racing, drove the first one and a half-litre car to finish in the International Trophy race at Silverstone. In a field primarily of two and a half-litre cant he was the 12th to finish in a field of 30. Ha completed 46, laps in the 50-lap race at an average speed of .96 miles an hour. Another New Zealander. Bruce McClaren, finished behind Mulme. But he waa “running to" Ms new two and a half-litre Cooper on its first outing.
