Improvement For * Marlborough

(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH. May 11 Next month would see a major change in the system of electffi power supply to Marlborough, the New Zealand Electricity Department’s district electrical engineer (Mr R. S. Meredith) told the conference of the Nelson-Mari-borough-West Coast League ot Local Bodies. He said a new line which would run down the Wairau valley from Kikiwa to Blenheim would greatly improve security of supply,to Marlborough. It would also pennit the supply for increased consumption of three times the present rate, said Mr Meredith.

“Its prepent capacity is weU able to cope with the load and a substantial increase, but nevertheless it is our intention to raisoits operating voltage from 66,068 to 110,000 volts," he said.

The line would therefore provide a valuable standby te Marlborough and even an emergency link tor the Nelson-Golden Bay area, said Mr Meredith.
