Carney’s Appeal Dismissed

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 2. The Court ■of Appeal in a reserved decision delivered by Mr Justice Hutchison today dismissed an appeal brought by Maxwell 1 arlton Carney • against his conviction and sentence in the Supreme Court at Christchurch on February 24. 1960, on charges of breaking and entering and theft, receiving, and escaping from lawful custody. The trial judge, Mr Justice Macarthur, sentenced Carney to preventive detention on the first charge and six months on each of the latter two charges, to be served concurrently with the sentence on the .first charge.
