CRICKET TOUR OPPONENTS

No Appearance At First Match LONDON, April 30. Opponents of South African racial policies failed to make their expected demonstration when the South African cricketers began the first match of their English tour against the Duke of Norfolk’s XI at Arundel Castle, Sussex, today. More than 60 police and detectives watched the crowd of 2000. While uniformed police patrolled the grounds and guarded the turnstiles, detectives mingled among the crowd. A radio control van was stationed under the trees to call reinforcements if necessary. The South African flag was not flying today. The manager, Mr Dudley Nourse, said it had been left behind by mistake.

The South Africans beat the Duke’s team by ) .-e wickets. The Duke’s side scored 220 for eight declared and the visitors 224 for five.
