The Reader in International Relations will be expected to engage in and to assist in supervising research into the political, legal or economic relations between nations. In its empirical work the Department pays considerable attention to the Asian and Pacific regions. The salary range for Readers is £A2.763-£3.213 but is at present under review and may be increased substantially. Applicants should be post-graduate students with capacity for research. Enrolments are invited as follows: (a) THE JOHN CURTIN SCHOOL ' OF MEDICAL RESEARCH: Students may enrol in the Departments of Biochemistry. Experimental Pathology, Medical Chemistry, Microbiology, Pnysiology, Physical Biochemistry and in the Unit of Inorganic Chemistry, in which work is being carried out on intermediarymetabolism, cardiovascular di'ease, heterocyclic chemistry pox and influenza viruses, neuro-physiology, electrolyte regulation, hormone assay, muscle-cell electro-chemistry and the chemistry of metal chelates, respectively. (b) THE RESEARCH SCHOOL OF PHYSICAL SCIENCES: Students may enrol in the Departments of Astronomy, Geophysics. Nuclear Physics. Particle Physics and Theoretical Physics, in which investigations are proceeding on the Southern Milky Way and Magellanic Clouds; the magnetic, heat conduction and mechanical properties of rocks; low energy nuclear physics; plasma physics and 10 BeV accelerator design and construction; theoretical problems in nuclear and high energy physics, respectively. (c) THE RESEARCH SCHOOLS OF SOCIAL SCIENCES AND PACIFIC STUDIES: Students may enrol to undertake research in the subjects of Anthropology and Sociology (Including Oceanic Linguistics). Demography. Economics (including Economic History anl Economic Statistics). Geography (most branches but not at present with any emphasis on soil geography and climatology). Modern History (particularly in the fields of Australia and the British Commonwealth). Far Eastern History (China and Japan).* International Relations. Law, Pacific History, Political Science (including Public Administration), Philosophy, Political and Social Philosophy, and Statistics (including Mathematical Statistics). A small number of scholarships Is open for competition among those wishing to enrol. The scholarships are tenable for an initial period of two years and mav be extended for a third year Scholars will normally enrol for a Ph D. degree. The present value of a scholarship is £A925 per annum. Scholars with appropriate medical qualifications receive a basic allowance of £A1347 per annum Married scholars with dependant children may be granted an additional allowance of £A265 per annum in respect of the first child and a further £ABO for each other child.
