Man Who Fired At Rat In Yard

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 29. While firing at a rat in his backyard with a .22 rifle Gordon George Brown, aged 31, traveller, put a shot through the windowpane of a child’s bedroom next door and into the headboard of the bed, Mr F. McCarthy, S.M., was told in the Magistrate’s Court today. Brown admitted a charge of discharging a firearm without cause and was fined £5 and costs.

The Magistrate said the incident could have been serious. He advised Brown to keep a cat about 1 the place.
