BULK CEMENT DELIVERY

New High-Speed

Method

Bulk cement Hvas discharged from a railway freight car into a storage silo at one ton a minute in a demonstration of highspeed delivery at the Halswell Junction road plant of Vibrapac Blocks, JLtd, yesterday afternoon. Watching the. demonstration were civil and consulting engineers, architects, and other businessmen with interests in cement.

Explaining how the cement was discharged from the speciallydesigned railway freight cars by pneumatic bulk cement handling plant was the technical manager of Vibrapac (Mr G. M. Jones). . Before starting the demonstration, Mr Jones invited one of the group of watchers to climb to the top of the tank car to verify that it did really contain cement. He said this was necessary because the cement could not be seen as it was discharged into the silo.

Plant operators then coupled up the 4in cement delivery pipe and the 2in air pipe ready for the cement to be discharged from the tanks into the silo. The chairman of directors of Milburn Lime and Cement Company, Ltd. (Mr R. D. Stewart), cut a blue and yellow ribbon and turned a wheel to send the first load of cement on its way. Used In Europe The chairman of directors of Vibrapac Blocks (Mr N. M. Vincent) said the method of carrying materials in bulk was one that had been used substantially in Europe ’ and developed in recent years in Great Britain.

The Vibrapac installation for unloading the cement from the railway tank cars was the first of its kind in New Zealand. “We have an intense pride that this is another first to Vibrapac,” he said.

Mr Stewart said it was a pleasure for his organisation to be associated with the newest method of transporting cement in New Zealand. “We searched the world for the best method of transporting cement and we think this is the best there is,” he said. It was another stage in the delivery of cement. “I think we can say that this is right up-to-date. We are proud to demonstrate it in our largest market—Canterbury.” Mr Stewart congratulated Vibrapac in joining with his organisation in the new method of cement delivery.
