INSPECTION OF ELECTRAS
Third Now Cleared For Service
‘‘The rigorous three-day inspection of the third Electra has been completed and the aircraft has returned to regular service,” said the general manager of Tasman Empire Airways, Ltd. (Mr F. A. Reeves), yesterday.
“Like the two Electras inspected in turn before it, the third was cleared for service with a ’clear sheet,’ ” he said.
“The special inspections have been carried out to the full requirements set by the Federal Aviation Agency for Electra operators in the United States and by the Civil Aviation Administration for New Zealand.” T.E.A.L used one DC-6 aircraft to maintain scheduled services during the special inspection period when the Electra fleet was temporarily reduced from three to two. The DC-6 was flown on three return Auckland to Nandi services and one return Auck-land-Sydney service.
“Two special flights have been added to scheduled services this week to help cope with the extremely heavy pre-Easter westbound demand from trans-Tasman passengers. One of these extra return services will be made by DC-6 and one by Electra,” said Mr Reeves.
