ALEXANDRA TO MORRINSVILLE

Long Journey For Veteran Car (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, April 11. Mr E. W. Sutherland, of Alexandra, Central Otago, set out yesterday to drive to Morrinsville, 20 miles north-east of Hamilton, in a 1903 De Dion Bouton one-cylinder car, which he has entered in the national veteran and vintage car rally to be held there on Easter Saturday. The route Mr Sutherland took to Timaru entailed crossing the Dansey Pass, from Naseby to the coast, and it was here that he had serious over-heating because of a faulty engine component. However, the trouble was fixed, and he arrived in Timaru without further incident. Mr Sutherland was to arrive in Christchurch tonight to cross to Wellington by steamer, and he hopes to be in Morrinsville by Friday. The De Dion Bouton has been in Mr Sutherland’s family since 1910.
