Tsaoko Brings 4500 Guineas (New Zealand Press Association) HASTINGS. April 8. The French-bred stallion Tsaoko, the sire of several winners in Australia and of the New Zealand winner Cassata, was bought for 4500 guineas by Mr L. G. Walker, of New Plymouth, at the dispersal of the famous Karamu Stud, Hastings, yesterday afternoon. Tsaoko, by Vatellor from Santa Clara, was bred in France in 1945 and came to New Zealand after standing for several years in Australia. His oldest New Zealand progeny are now two-year-olds. s’ Bidding for Tsaoko opened at 500 guineas and progressed steadily to 4500 guineas, when he was knocked down to Mr Walker. There was a good attendance, and bidding generally was brisk. Twelve brood mares offered on behalf of the Karamu Stud sold for a total of 3270 guineas, at an average of 272 J guineas, and five weanlings aggregated 2025 guineas for an average of 405 guineas. Golden Chime, the progeny of which have brought high prices, topped the brood mare section of the sale. She was sold for 550 guineas to Mr C. Roberts, of Auckland. who paid the top price of 700 guineas for a weanling colt by Faux Tirage. The Foxbridge mare Langpris, dam of Truxton, was sold for 500gns to Mr A. Morrisby, Sydney; and Ann Hatfield, the dam of Somain. Epsom Boy and Wondon, went to Wright, Stephenson and Company. Ltd., Te Kuiti, as agents, for 400gns. The brood mare Scream also brought 400 guineas, which was the price the mare Auf Wiedersehen realised. Although the Faux Tirage—Golden Chime weanling made top price of 700gns, there was almost as spirited a demand for a colt by Chatsworth II from Langpris, a half-brother to Truxton. He brought 625gns. He was knocked down to Mr T. W. Sanders, of Central Otago. Mrs E. Goulter, Sevenoaks Stud. Blenheim, paid 750 guineas for the brood mare Court Scene, offered on behalf of Mr C. H. R. Jepson. Wallaceville. A splendid bay filly, foaled 1n November, 1958. by Targui from Camelon, a sister to the smart two-year-old Tarlon, was sold on behalf of Mrs W. R. Stead. Hastings, to Australian Estates, Ltd., Brisbane, for 500 guineas.
