Win For Blue Prince In N.Z. Pacing Stakes

Blue Prince confirmed lhe high opinion held of him when he gained his third win for the season in the New Zealand Pacing Stakes at Addington on Saturday. Blue Prince was one of the early leaders when the pace was slack. He dropped in behind Young Dieman at the end of half a mile and received a good run to the straight.

Young Dieman was on the inside of Massacre at the straight entrance. with Blue Prince blocked for room on the inside of Medium Blue. Lileas, Va Vite. Peebles. Meadow Gem. Rain Cloud. Kingsdown Patch and Chantilly were handiest of the others. Voting Dieman moved off the rails inside the furlong and this allowed Blue Prince to obtain a clear run. He was quick to take the opening and he finished strongly to win by a length. Massacre paced a fine race for second, being wide out in the middle stages. He fought on gamely to beat the faster-finish-ing Peebles by a length for second, with a neck to the galloping Young Dieman, which broke when appearing assured of second place 50 yards out. Medium Blue was a neck back fifth, with another neck to Rain Cloud, two lengths to Pierette. half a neck to Paddy's Day and a narrow margin to Kingsdown Patch. Orient Night. Rain Cloud. Paddy’s Day and Va Vite lost ground at the start. Spring Chat’s Win Spring Chat received a good run throughout the Electric Handicap, and she ran out the final furlong too strongly for her rivals. Whippy Dillon and Finestra forced the pace before Highland i Heath took over near * the half-mile. Finestra had him well beaten soon after. Finestra and Aranla were together racing to the straight, with Frown just behind them, ahead of Spring Chat. Bindora, Impresario, Johnny Guitar, Highland Heath. Fox Able, and Vinolats Luck. Frown raced clear early in the run home, with Spring Chat gradually overhauling him. Spring Chat took the measure of Frown 50 yards out, and she finished well to win by a length. Frown battled on for his placing, half a length in front of Johnny Guitar, which paced his best race for some time. Ceremonial came fast from near the rear to finish fourth a length away, half a neck in front of Vinola’s Luck, with half a length to Impresario, two lengths to Fox Able, and a short length to Finestra. Arania, Josie Gay and Fox Able gave ground at the start. Narrow Win Smokeaway gained a well-earned but narrow win over Responsive in the President’s Handicap. Smokeaway went to the front at the end of two -and a half furlongs, but a furlong later he dropped in behind Spaxton. Responsive went to the front when Spaxton dropped out before the half-mile, and she led for home ahead of Elope, Master Trick, Battle Fling, Smokeaway. Keff and Earl Delta. Smokeaway worked through on the inside of Responsive inside the furlong, and they had a great battle, Smokeaway gaining the decision by a nose. Responsive’s placing was full of merit as she raced three wide in the middle stages. She was a length and a half- in front of the unlucky Earl Delta, which was pushed back towards the rear in the middle stages. He was a length In front of Master Trick, with a nose to Elope, a length to Battle Fling, and half a length io Keff. Mulgrove broke at the start and

cannoned into John Leslie, Cay Baron meeting interference. Gay Baron was later pulled up. Probationary Race Lavengro followed up a placing on the first day of "the meeting with a win in the Papanui Handicap, a race for probationary drivers. Lavengro was the early leader, but R. P. Nyhan soon steadied him in behind. Pencarne went to the front at the nine furlongs, and he turned for home on the inside of Stormont, with Queen Rani, Lavengro, Skean Dhu, Next Time. Good Fight, Staraider and Royal Brittania following. Pencarne .and Storment were in trouble early In the run home, and Lavengro soon took their measure. He finished strongly and won well by two lengths. Pencarne battled on slightly better than Stormont to beat him by a length for second, with Skean Dhu making up a little ground for fourth a head away, half a length in front of Royal Brittania. Next Time was half -a length further back, four lengths in front of Queen Rani. Staralder, Atone. Mythical Lass. Autumn Folly, Royal Brittania, Good Fight. First Night and Blue Shawl met trouble at the end of three furlongs. Atone and Mythical Lass being pulled up Favourite Wins The favourite. Winterlight, gained a decisive win in the New Zealand Trotting Stakes. However, he gave his supporters plenty of anxious moments as he broke at the halfmile and again at the straight entrance. He was driven by M. Holmes, who has now had four winning drives in the event. He won with Acclamation in 1946, Alight in 1957, and Court Out 12 months ago. John Black set the pace, with Winterlight trailing him and Flying Paddy not far away. The others, apart from Arizona Gal, all made mistakes early. John Black, Winterlight and Flying Paddy all broke at the straight entrance, but John Black settled down first and looked likely to win. He broke about half a furlong out. and Winterlieht raced past him to win by three' lengths. Bonny Rachael made up ground for third three and a half lengths behind John Black, with four lengths to Kuyawav. which was a long way back early.
