SHAREMARKET INDICES
WOOL SALES AT SYDNEY (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, April 5. The Sydney Wool Selling Brokers’ Association reported that of the 16,874 bales offered at today’s Sydney woolsales, 16,224 were cleared. There was strong competition from Japan and Eastern Europe, with good support from Britain, the Continent and local mills. On some lines the market continued to harden and values again moved in the sellers’ favour for best fleece wools. Other descriptions, showing irregularity in quality and carrying heavy vegetable fault, showed no change when compared with yesterday’s prices. Comebacks. crossbreds and carding wools tended in the sellers’ favour.
The selection comprised good to average spinners types drawn from Yass, Braidwood, the southern and central tablelands, and Mudgee, with a sprinkling of good stlye topmakers drawn from the north-west, central west and south-west areas. Comebacks and crossbreds totalled about 3300 bales. Crossbred prices: Good 56’s, 73jd per lb; good average 50’s, 60d.
