TROTTING Win For Master Alan Over Two-year-olds

Master Alan, runner-up to Flying Note at Wyndham the previous Saturday, showed gameness to win the Two-year-old Stakes at Methven on Saturday. He was hdhded early in the run home, but fought back gamely along the inside to win well by a head.

Master Alan is a small bay gelding by/the Light Brigade horse, Masterpiece, from Ellenella. He is trained at Tokarahi by G. R. Hore, who races him in partnership with Mr C. M. Hore. G. R. Hore has trained many horses and he has had success in recent years with Hydro Boy and.Toka Boy. Master Alan’s success is his most important to date. Robyn, Wiella and No Comment broke at the start. Young Garry was first out, but he was passed at the end of two furlongs by Ingemar. Rhythm Dancer took over at the seven furlongs, with Master Alan improving in the back straight to take the lead before the half-mile. Jay-Ar improved sharply at this stage to be second. Jay-Ar was shading Master Alan racing to the straight, with Don Ngaree, Southern Cross, Summit Road, Ingemar, Meadow Lynn and Young Garry following. Jar-Ar came to the end of his run just inside the furlong and it looked as though Summit Road would win. However, Master Alan fought back strongly along the inside to beat him by a head. Don Ngaree was a length behind Summit Road, with a head to Jay-Ar, which came again. Ingemar was six lengths further back, well clear of Young Garry, Southern Cross, Meadow Lynn and Wiella. Rhythm Dancer fell near the three and a half furlongs and Borodin ran into him. Wekin broke twice and was pulled up. Flammetta Again Fiammetta, a winner at the Cheviot meeting on March 19. won again in the Lauriston Handicap. She received the run of the race, first behind Glorified and then behind Sure Patrick. She went to the front when Sure Patrick broke near the half-mile and she led for home ahead of Dianthus Girl. Merry Nora, which broke, and Chances Are. The remainder of the field was disorganised when Kennoway put a foot through a wheel of Procrastinator’s sulky near th* three furlongs. Flammetta did not have to give of her best in the straight to win by two lengths from Chances Are. which finished with a damaged sulky wheel. Dianthus Gid. lifter breaking early, showed speed to be second in the straight. She tired to third, half a length behind Chances Are and four lengths in front of Glorified, which beat Merry Nora by a nose. Catanult was next, well clear of Kennoway and Nimble Grattan. Massacre Wins Narrowly Massacre came , from eleventh place at the half-mile ’ to gain a good win in the Spaxton Handicap. Considering his lack of recent form, his short win dividend of £9 5s was surprising. Massacre was a little slow early, but he improved sharply to be second, not far from the leader, Mystic Star, racing to the straight, with Lileas, Kilkerry, Enrich, Meadow Gem, Placid Knight, Dryden Maid. Dieman Dan and Van Rush handiest of the others. Mystic Star soon shook off a challenge- from Lileas, but Massacre then came on the scene and he finished strongly to win, by a short length. Mystic Star held second place half a neck in front of Lileas, with a head to Placid Knight, which finished well. Meadow Gem, which had every chance, was two lengths back, half a head in front of Van Rush, which was fourth last near the three furlongs. Enrich; Dieman Dan, Devant and Generator headed the remainder. Division Race Guiness, which was having his first race start .and Loyal Diemart, a place-getter at Rangiora the previous week, won the divisions of the Highbank Handicap. Guiness, which was not greatly favoured, was bracketed with a popular fancy in Gay Widow, otherwise his win dividend of £5 5s 6d would have been much greater. Guiness was close to the lead all the way, but he lost a length or two when he tangled slightly near the six furlongs. Lucky Brigade led for home ahead of Avondale Heir, Van Buren, Levanter, Thunderbolt, Guiness, Lucky Harvest and Paddy’s Day. Van Buren looked the winner when he shook off a challenge from Levanter near the furlong, but Guiness came strongly wide out and had a length to spare at the post. Van Buren beat Levanter by two lengths for second, with half a length to Paddy’s Day. Then came Thunderbolt, Avondale Heir and Lucky Brigade. Loyal Dleman, after being forced wide in the middle stages,, finished well to beat Lucky Helen by two lengths in the second division. Loyal Dieman followed Prinsuva, Tara Bank. Runfttee and King’s Red into the straight. With Lucky Helen several places further back. Napoleon Hanover, Prinsuva, King’s Red and Lilian’s Star were all handy at the furlong, with Loyal Dieman finishing well wide out. He continued his run to beat Lucky Helen by two lengths .with Prinsuva half a length behind Lucky Helen. Lillian’s Star was a length away fourth, ahead of Napoleon Hanover and King’s Red with a gap to Drumquin. Easy For Fourina Fourina, which graduated from maiden conjpany at Rangiora a week earlier, made no race of the Lyndhurst Handicap. She was slow early, with her trainer-driver, -J.

L. Behrns, giving her plenty of time to become properly balanced. White Emperor raced to the front with nine furlongs left and at the half-mile he was clear by six lengths. He broke near the three furlongs and Fourina. which was improving gradually, raced to the lead. She turned for home three lengths in front of Attract afid Andromeda, with Snap On and When next, clear of Kerry Keel, which broke. Fourina showed no signs of weakening and she won decisively by four lengths from Andromeda, which looks a likely improver. When, after drifting near the halfmile, made up ground for third, four lengths in front of the tiring Attract. Snap On was beaten off fifth, ahead of Arizona Gal, Basha Felika, Mighty Ruston and White Emperor.
