Canterbury B Wins Over South Otago

The Canterbury Softball Association completed a very successful season on Saturday when its senior B representative side had an easy win over South Otago 21-4. South Otago was three up three down on its first. Canterbury replied and, finding South Otago rather unsettled in its fielding, scored six runs South Otago was again held three up three down in its next and in reply good batting by G. Freeman and M. Gaskell, of Canterbury, and a three-base hit by K. Hands, allowed the side to add four more runs to its total.

South Otago, with good batting by P. Farrow and A. Heslip, opened its account in its third, scoring four runs. L. Alston, of Canterbury, after hitting on, advanced on errors to score the only run in reply. South Otago was held scoreless in its fourth with two on base. Good hits by J. Scott and K. Hands brought in four runs for Canterbury. South Otago was retired scoreless with one on in its fifth. South Otago's pitcher, A. Russell, was forced to retire from the game with a pulled muscle and as the team did not have any reserves. B. Makinson took the mound. Sou + h Otago was rather unsettled in the field and it was not until five runs had been scored by Canterbury that the third out was taken. South Otago failed with two on in its sixth and improved fielding by South Otago held Canterbury to one run. South Otago in its last was held three up three down for Canterbury to win easily without batting its last. L Honeyman pitched well for Canterbury.
