CONSTITUTIONAL SOCIETY
Christchurch Branch Formed A Christchurch branch of the Constitutional Society was formed at a meeting of members held on Tuesday evening. Mr R. D. Lascelles presided. The following interim executive was appointed:—President, Mr H. G. Royds; vice-president, Mr S. Bell; secretary, Mr R. B. Grey; committee. Mrs P. J. Dolan, Messrs J. Paton Boyd, A. C. Brassington, P. J. Dolan, N. C. Lambrechtson, R. D. Lascelles, W. H. Overton, J. H. R. Parker, L. A. Prouting, and L- R- Wilkinson. The meeting was addressed by Mr A. F. Manning, of Auckland, the society’s chief executive officer, who gave an account of the growth and achievements of the society. He said it was essential to be vigilant against increasing State domination. The meeting resolved to undertake an immediate drive for new members in the Christchurch area. It was announced that Dr. O. C. Mazengarb, Q.C., of Wellington, a member of the society’s general committee, would address a public meeting in Christchurch early in June.
