DOG-DOSING SCHEME
New Drug To Be Considered , *- 1 ♦ F 4
House-to-house treatment of dogs and the use of a new drug, arecoline acetarsol, would be discussed by the hydatids control sub-committee of the Christchurch City Council when it met to consider all aspects of the antihydatids dog dosing scheme, said Cr. H. P. Smith, chairman of the sub-committee, yesterday. The sub-committee will meet within the next few days. It was appointed after the council’s scheme had been suspended after the deaths of three dogs on the openings day of the dosing scheme; but it has not met since. Cr. Smith said that the house-to-house scheme was being used in Riccarton borough and other local bodies’ areas, but in every case the area was more compact and different from the widespread city area of Christchurch. The new drug is reported to be slightly less efficient than arecoline hydrobromide and more expensive.
