Trap Shooting N.Z. TOURNEY BEGINS
Preliminaries At Yaldhurst Fine, calm weather favoured competitors when the New Zealand trap shooting tournament opened on the Christchurch Gun Club's grounds at Yaldhurst yesterday. The day’s shooting was a preliminary to the New Zealand championship events to be shot later at the meeting, which will end on March 30. Shooters from Whangarel to Invercargill are competing. J. McLean from Moree, Australia, was the only overseas shooter competing yesterday. The most successful shooters yesterday were H. C. Walker (Hakataramea), who scored a possible in the 25-target handicap and the £lOO handicap match, in addition to breaking 18 targets in th? 10-pair double-rise sweepstake. Ivan Sutherland (Palmerston North) and F. S. Joblin (Gisborne) both scored possibles in the first three events.
J. C. Streeter, the present National Single and Double Rise champion, showed that he will again be a force to be reckoned with in this year’s championships, by scoring possibles in both the 15 and 25-target events. Results were:—
