CHILDREN’S HOMES IN CHRISTCHURCH

More Than 300 Cared For Each Year The number of children cared for in church homes in Christchurch was more than 300 in an average year, according to the annual report of the Christchurch Children’s Homes Appeal Trust Board, which whs presented at the first annual meeting on Tuesday. Funds raised during the board’s first year of operation had been distributed equally among Methodist, Presbyterian and Anglican children’s homes and had amounted to £5325. Other denominations, including Baptist, Church of Christ and Congregational Churches had also given valuable assistance < in raising funds.

Plans for the coming year included a street day collection to

be held on August 12. With the help of Christchurch Bible class groups a house-to-house appeal would be organised on October 5, said the report. Officers elected were:— Chairman, Mr R. McPherson; vice-chairman, Mr S. H. Thomas; secretary-treasurer, Mr L. G. K. Steven; honorary auditor, Mr GA. Knight.
